Mass of Electron

How Much the Mass of Electron with relative and calculate

Like the other particle of an atom, an electron has its mass too. Electron is an orbiting particle that orbits across the outer shell of an atom. In general state, every atom has a certain number of electrons.

The numbers of electron change the behavior of the atom. In other words, we can say that the characteristics of different atom vary for the total number of the electron in it.

However, the mass of Electron is very important to know for them who have a strong attraction in science. It’s mandatory for a science student to know about the electron and its mass.

The scientists are also doing research more about electron and their characteristics for better information. So, we are going to share with you interesting information about the mass of an electron.

What is the Mass of Electron in kg/grams?

As we all know that electron is a subatomic particle and it has mass and the mass is the same for every electron in different atoms. The symbol to express the electron is ‘e’. Electron was discovered by J. J. Thomson who was an English physicist.

The electron has a lightweight compared to proton and neutron weight. It has a negative charge and static force too.
The mass of electron in kg = 9.10938356 x 10-31

The mass of electron in grams = 9.10938356 x 10-28

The mass of electron in Atomic Mass Unit = 5.4858 x 10-4

How Mass of Electron Calculated

The mass of an electron is calculated by the mass to charge ratio. At first, it was done by the scientist J.J. Thomson in 1897. He did that by firing electron from a cathode gun at a known velocity and there was an electric field of known strength.  Thomson observed that the beam was deflected by the beam and he measured it.

Then he gave the formula the mass to charge ratio- me/Q. There are many other ways to calculate the mass of an electron. You can learn more by searching it on the internet.

Relative Mass of Electron

What do you know about the relative mass of an electron? The mass of an electron is very lighter than the proton and neutron mass as we said it earlier. So, how much less?

This question is the answer to the relative mass of electron question.
Well, if we let proton and neutron mass is as the value of 1 there come electron mass value as 1/1840.
Read also the Mass of Neutron

Still confused? Ok, we all know that proton and the neutron have approximately the same value. So,

The relative mass of a Proton = 1

The relative mass of a Neutron= 1

The relative mass of Electron = 1/1840 = 0.0005

Characteristics of Electron

  • The antiparticle of Electron is
  • The spin of the electron – ½
  • Electric charge = -1

Hope that you have known the important information about the mass of the electron. Electron is a mighty particle that can spin and can travel to one shell of an atom to another shell. By changing the shell it can change the behavior of the certain atom.
